Here are our tips for making better use of the alcoves in your home:
- Wallpaper alcoves
Wallpaper small alcoves with a Komar photomural to give the room a focal point. Use the online configurator in the Komar online shop to adjust murals to the size you want. Simply select your favourite mural, click on the red button “Adjust to desired size” and enter the dimensions accordingly. - Frame radiators
In older houses and flats, radiators are often built into the wall, creating a recess behind them that can be livened up with a little colour. To avoid splashes on the outside of the radiator, allow the radiator to cool and apply masking tape. Apply your chosen colour with a paint roller and then admire the effect. - Jazz up open shelving
Open shelving reveals the back wall of the respective piece of furniture. This back wall is ideal for covering with mural remnants or high-quality decorative paper. This allows you to highlight vases, special china or a favourite designer piece, creating an exciting contrast in the room. - Use staircases
There is often an recess beneath the staircase. It would be a pity not to make the most of this area, as it is useful storage space. But if you don't need this recess, you can use it to create a picture gallery that extends up to the top of the stairs. Combine a variety of frames in different shapes and sizes for a particularly relaxed look. - Discover unused storage space in the bedroom
In the children’s room or in bedrooms, fit a clothes rail between the wall and the wardrobe to create a coat rack to make optimum use of the space. This will ensure that clothes which have been worn are aired effectively and do not become creased.
As you can see, there are plenty of ways to make effective, practical use of these little nooks and crannies in the home.
