If your holiday in the Chiemgau has left you with a yearning for the mountains and lakes, you can bring the scenery of Bavaria into your home permanently. With Komar photomurals, green meadow landscapes, alpine panoramas and sunrises over Lake Chiemsee provide the perfect backdrop to your room, creating a soothing retreat.
And while holiday plans are being made for the coming year, we have put together a few excursion tips and sights from the region as recommendations.
Our favourite sights and attractions at a glance:
1. Schloss Herrenchiemsee
Built in 1878, Schloss Herrenchiemsee (Herrenchiemsee Palace) was modelled on the Palace of Versailles as a ‘temple of glory’ dedicated to Louis XIV. Today, Schloss Herrenchiemsee attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and is the sight on Lake Chiemsee. The boat trip to Herreninsel and the guided tour of the castle are certainly worth a trip.
2. Kampenwand
This distinctive triple-peaked craggy mountain is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. The Kampenwand can be climbed or comfortably reached by mountain railway. The fantastic view over the Chiemsee region and the Alps make this destination an awe-inspiring mountain experience.
3. Chiemsee
Often called ‘the Bavarian Sea’, this freshwater lake offers a beautiful view of the Alps and a host of leisure activities. Wonderful bathing spots directly on the lake and the scenic cycle path surrounding the lake are ideal, especially in the warmer months.
4. Eggstätt lake district
The Eggstätt lake district consists of 17 individual lakes and is located northwest of Lake Chiemsee. The largest lakes are the Langbürgner, the Schloßsee, the Kautsee, the Hartsee and the Pelhamer See. They are all connected by watercourses and are absolutely not be missed.
5. Boarischer Entschleunigungsweg in Aschau im Chiemgau
This ‘relaxation’ trail is located in Aschau im Chiemgau and Sachrang and consists of 470 different benches. The ‘Bankerlweg’ route is 1.7 km and provides extremely beautiful views of the surrounding nature and mountains. The 200 individually themed benches make the trail a unique experience.
